Muhyiddin: Tourism, oil and gas sectors to be Johor’s economic drivers

Muhyiddin was responding to reporters’ questions on the development of new sectors as proposed under the second Comprehensive Development Plan for Iskandar Malaysia. The plan, being prepared by the Iskandar Region Development Authority (IRDA), will be ready next month. Muhyiddin had suggested for the spill over effects from the Iskandar Malaysia region, to be channelled to other areas, thus opening up opportunities to small and medium industries and related businesses. He said the development of north Johor such as Muar, Batu Pahat and Segamat must also be given attention, so that the people in these areas would have the chance to reap the benefits. Muhyiddin, who expressed satisfaction with the development plans of the state government, said that concerted efforts by the state government to develop Iskandar Malaysia has made Johor the most rapidly developing state now. With the two development plans ― Johor Development Plan and Suara Hati Johor Plan ― Johoreans are expected to enjoy more sustainable and rapid development, he added. Earlier, Muhyiddin attended a briefing, which lasted more than an hour, by the State Economic Planning Unit and IRDA on the development plans for the state. Also present was Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
